Spinal Stenosis

The Superion InterSpinous Spacer (Superion Spacer) is a small H-shaped device made of a titanium alloy that is designed to reduce the symptoms of spinal stenosis.

Symptoms

Symptoms can be:

  • numbness or tingling in the legs/feet
  • weakness in the legs with standing/walking
  • pain or cramping in the legs
  • low back pain

These symptoms are relieved with sitting or lying down. Patients also state that leaning on a walker, cane, or shopping cart can relieve their symptoms.

The device is implanted between two adjacent bones in the lower back and can help stop the progression of spinal stenosis.

Treatment

What will it accomplish?

The device should help relieve the symptoms of moderate lumbar spinal stenosis by acting as a “doorstop” and preventing further compression of the spinal cord and nerves at the affected spinal level.
